Kailashahar, Nov 21: Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Tinku Roy on Thursday inspected Unakoti District Hospital, where several shortcomings are hampering the healthcare services for a considerable period.
After the inspection and holding discussion with the officials concerned, the minister assured improved healthcare services in the hospital.
The CT Scan facility, Oxygen Plant and Generic Medicine counter of the hospital are out of service for a long time. Besides, irregular attendance of specialist doctors is a major issue while the toilets are lying in a miserable condition.
The hospital services are disrupted on a regular basis due to frequent power cuts. One generator is there but it stopped functioning long ago. One ICU has been established in the hospital one year ago but it is yet to start operation.
The issues hit the headlines several times. Considering the recent media reports, the Minister along with Health secretary Kiran Gitte and other officials visited the hospital on Thursday and held an important meeting. Medical Superintendent Dr. Rohan Paul was present in the meeting.
Later speaking to the media, the minister said that the overall infrastructure of the Unakoti District Hospital would soon be improved. He said, the CT Scan facility and Oxygen Plant service would be resumed.
He also assured that the hospital would get more specialist doctors.
Replying to a query, Roy reiterated his commitment that new services would soon be introduced to strengthen the Rajiv Gandhi sub-divisional hospital, Kailashahar. He also announced that the Health department has taken initiatives to introduce 24x7 services at Halaicherra and Samrurpar primary health centres in Kailashahar sub-division.
Health director Dr. Sanjib Debbarma, Unakoti District Magistrate Dilip Kumar Chakma, SDM Kailashahar Pradip Sarkar, PWD executive engineer, Unakoti district- Pradip Ranjan Das and other officials accompanied the minister during the visit.
